Update on Living in Idaho

Update...On Tuesday (12/10/13) I went to the Idaho Commission for the Blind and did a tour of the program that I want/hope to start in January. It is going to be a five days a week and a full day of classes. I am planning on staying in the dorms at the center, so I can meet other people and since there is no transportation where I currently live. The classes consist of Braille, orientation and mobility, computer/technology programs for the blind, daily living skills (cooking, eating, laundry, cleaning, etc) and wood shop. All these classes are done with a sleep shade on so you are completely blind. The reason for this is so we can train our brain to make a mental image of what we are doing so we can succeed. It is also to help gain confidence in ourselves knowing that if we can do it with no vision, we will be okay. I think that it is going to be a great learning experience and confidence builder for me. In the wood shop class I was given the chance to try the table saw for the first time ever with a blind fold. I thought that I would freak out...nope I did it with no problem! It was a great feeling!

Steelheads Hockey Game

Steelheads in Boise, ID
Hockey may not be on my bucket list, but it is something I have never done before. Even though I don't understand how the game is played with the changing of players so often and why the whistle was blown at times...it was still a fun time and exciting. There were only three fights and one of them was intense! The other team player flew and landed on his face hard. It's funny what little pushes triggers a player to take a hockey stick and hit a player. Makes me wonder if it is for show more than anger, haha. The game went into overtime and then a shoot out. We lost by one point! I went to the game with my cousin, Stacey. Can't wait to go to more!
