Edinburgh was a long day filled with lots of walking, which I should have been used to by now on this trip!
We started the day by touring the town some before heading to Edinburgh Castle. This castle was spread out on a hill above the Royal Mile on the Castle Rock. Some of the castle was rebuilt after a fire but still resembled the era. The way that castles were built seemed like a long and painful process. I found this castle had a modern look compared to the castles that I had seen so far. The weather kept us on our toes as the wind became strong blew right through the castle grounds as we waiting in long line waiting to see the jewels. Of course, there was some rain for a bit!

On the Royal Mile there is a statue that you find many people rubbing their finger on a large golden toe (how I forgot all about this part of the trip until I looked at my pictures- no idea!) The man is David Hume and it is known that if you touch the toe you will be lucky to gain knowledge. Hopefully my touch helps me get through Boise State!

As we walked down the Royal Mile we learned a little about the history. It is known to have many people lining the road trying to sell items or putting acts on to get money. We were warned to not get suckered into acts since we didn't have the time. Of course my grandparents did! Our guide led us through a very narrow path between buildings which opened up into a courtyard. There was a small pub called "The Writers", which was popular for many famous writers. It was known that the writers would share their stories. We didn't have time to go in and tour, sadly. As we stood in the courtyard, we were told that back in the day everyone use to throw their garbage and human waste out the windows at a certain time of day for the rain to wash away. So gross! It smelled like a sewer still and when it rains and the drain get full it gets worse. I felt like I needed to shower and sanitize my cane!

There is another statue that is well-known on the mile of a dog. I didn't make it to the end of the mile to see it. Check out the website to read the story.

Throughout the day we heard that Scotland had the best fish and chips so we had to try it out. Let's say that there is more breading than fish even though you get the whole fish! :)
